Marseille relied on wing-backs Klaus and Nuno Tavares to pressure Lance’s defense.

“The pace of the game was really fast,” Krause told Amazon Prime Video. “There were times when I wanted to slow down, but my coach encouraged me to push more. He always pushes me during training.

Tavares doubled the lead by cutting inside and firing into the far corner on the stroke of half-time. Tavares, who joined on loan from Arsenal, created chances for Sengiz Under in the 17th inning and Luis Suarez as a substitute in the 65th inning.

New signings Théate and Joe Rodon made their French league debuts at the heart of Rennes’ defense. Teaate scored a cross from Lorient full-back Gedeon Karl for an own goal in the 65th minute. He then received a yellow card for a sarcastic foul in the 87th inning.
