TIFFIN — A “massive new family entertainment center” is coming to Tiffin.

On Tuesday, Des Moines-based Fridley Theaters unveiled its latest project, The Palms Theaters, an IMAX family entertainment center. It will be part of the Park Place development just off Interstate 380.

City administrator Doug Boldt told The Gazette that the city is excited about the project. He added that it would be a destination for Tiffin and Corridor.

“Any time we add a quality of life amenity like this to our community, it’s great,” says Boldt.

In addition to theaters and large IMAX screens, the Tiffin Complex has arcade games, bowling, restaurants and bars. According to a video Fridley Theaters posted on his Facebook, the IMAX screen will be 70 feet tall and 90 feet wide.

In a Facebook post, the movie theater company said, “With a long list of amenities, Tiffin is sure to become an entertainment hub across Interstate 380.

Fridley Theaters will announce details of the project.

“I think Tiffin is going in the right direction and it’s great to be recognized by an organization like this,” Bolt said.

Fridley Theaters opened an IMAX facility in Waukee in 2019. Featuring 15 auditoriums and his 90-foot-wide IMAX screen, reports The Des Moines Register. Also known as The Palms Theater or IMAX, the theater has heated, reclining seats.

The Walkie location also has an arcade in addition to a bar and restaurant. There are 17 Fridley Theaters in Iowa and one in Nebraska.

The City of Tiffin sees significant growth for Park Place.

This 265-acre mixed-use development is planned by Ders Group of North Liberty. Includes entertainment, restaurants, and shopping, as well as multi-family and single-family home lots.

Park Place expressed its excitement about the new addition on Facebook, calling the viewing experience and amenities of the Fridley Theater “unlike others.”

“With the latest and greatest movies, bowling, arcades, dining and more, Fridley will be a hit for the Tiffin community and surrounding corridors,” the Facebook post said.

Other announced Park Place tenants include Toptracer golf facility, Casa Tequila, 380 Nails, Farmers State Bank, iGYM and Speedy Mike’s carwash, according to Park Place’s website.
