PFBC Awards Grants to Support Educational Programs

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania (August 8) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boating Commission (PFBC) awarded $201,837 in grants through its R3 Education Grant Program to support 13 fishing and boating education projects in nine counties. supported. Recruiting new participants, retaining existing participants, and reactivating previous participants are collectively known as R3. This grant program aims to increase the number of anglers and sailors in Pennsylvania.

“Our educational programs are essential for Pennsylvanian people to participate in valuable natural resources and recreational opportunities. PFBC R3 Education Grant recipients have successfully applied and demonstrated how new or expanded projects advance R3 initiatives and connect Pennsylvanians to federal waterways. Funds awarded through the grant program will be used to purchase equipment, educational resources, provide transportation, and cover other costs related to the development and delivery of R3 educational programs.

All projects funded for this round of grants must be completed by June 30, 2023.

  • Monroe: Blodhead Chapter Trout Unlimited, Expanding Chapter Fishing Program
  • Montgomery: Let’s Go Outdoors, Beginner Fishing in Philadelphia
  • Montgomery: Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, water classroom outdoor education program
  • Montgomery: Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, Introducing River Recreation
  • Philadelphia: Independence Seaport Museum, Paddling for All Sizes
  • Philadelphia: The John Bertram Society Deepens and Updates Recreational Fishing and Boating in Bertram’s Garden on the Tidal Schuylkill River
  • Pike: Pocono Environmental Education Center, PEEC Summer Camp Fishing Program

Last year, PFBC awarded $158,945 in grants to support eight education projects and one statewide initiative in eight counties.
