— In the nearly 25 years since Princess Diana’s death, there has been no shortage of content examining the immense impact and intrigue of her short life. But Ed Perkins’ new documentary, The Princess, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is available on HBO (and HBO Max) Wednesday, puts the lens back on us. There are no speakers or narration, but instead only archival footage is used to tell a different kind of story.
— Two of this summer’s most enjoyable theatrical releases, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris and Mr. Malcolm’s List, are now available for rent on demand to watch at home. The former is a grounded fantasy decked with mid-century designer lore, featuring Lesley Manville as a housekeeper and widow in post-WWII England. She dreams of owning Christian’s Dior gown and she has to go to Paris to get it (and her middle-aged Sabrina moment). “Mr. Malcolm’s List,” on the other hand, is Jane’s ode to Austen, a Regency-era romance full of gossip, intrigue and high-society hijinks, featuring Freida her Pinto, Zawe her Ashton, and Lily Dilis. plays the famous Mr. Malcolm.
— In another streamer, Lili Reinhart of “Riverdale” fame leads “Look Both Ways,” a Netflix picture about college seniors whose lives split into parallel realities on graduation night. One, she’s pregnant and has to move to Texas. In another, she heads to Los Angeles to start her career. “Look Two Ways,” co-starring “Top Gun: Maverick” Danny Ramiertz, hits her Netflix on Wednesday. And for those looking for scare, Paramount+ will debut “Orphan: First Kill” on her Friday, August 19th. The film, a prequel to Jaume Collet-Serra’s 2009 horror Orphan, follows Esther as she escapes from a psychiatric facility in Estonia. and go to America.

— Demi Lovato’s next album flirts with NSFW. “Holy Fvck” is the track and title of her 16-song album, which will be released on Friday, August 19th. told SiriusXM. “And especially because there are songs on the album that have certain religious overtones, there are songs on the album that have this dichotomy of good and bad. The songs represent both.” ‘s first punk single, “Skin of My Teeth,” is about Lovato’s struggle with sobriety. “Grim Reaper knocks on my door/Cause I’m more addicted,” she sings.
— What have you accomplished during the pandemic? Indie rock band Mountain Goats have released three new studio albums and are set to release a fourth. His latest album, Bleed Out, is due out on Friday, August 19, and has been described as a “cinematic experience inspired by the action movies of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.” The first single, “Training Montage,” is accompanied by a silly video of the band doing push-ups, running down stairs, and riding skateboards. Oh, and while we wait for the album, frontman Jon Darniel managed to release a true crime novel, Devil House, earlier this year.
— Don’t panic. Brendon Urie is back. His band Panic! At The Disco presents his album ‘Viva Las Vengeance’ on Friday 19th August, lead by the sweet single ‘Middle of a Breakup’ and the high-energy title his track. “Viva Las Vengeance is a look back at who I was 17 years ago and who I am now, with a love I never had before. There was something about being honest,” says Urie. This is his first Panic song since 2018’s “Pray for the Wicked.” You can also catch the band at this year’s MTV VMAs on August 28th.

— High-stakes drama unfolds outside the courtroom in Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, a 10-part documentary series that premieres Monday on Hulu. This series details how real estate mogul Jerry Buss bought the team in 1979 and transformed it into a multi-billion dollar championship. This also includes business and family conflicts. The series has a bus connection. His widow, CEO and controlling owner of the Lakers, Jeanie Buss, is an executive producer.
