  • Manchester City have created a shortlist of five left-backs for the summer

  • Atlético Madrid defender Renan Lodi leads Citizens’ five-man shortlist
  • Pep Guardiola’s side are also gearing up to sign defender Sergio Gomez.

Manchester City are interested in signing Atletico Madrid defender Renan Lodi, with Cityzens looking to solve their left-back problem.

The Pep Guardiola-led side are set to sign Anderlecht defender Sergio Gomez to a deal worth £11million, which could be £16.9million.

However, the 21-year-old could be on loan from the Etihad this season if City sign another full-back to face Joao Cancelo regularly.

The reigning Premier League champions are on the market at left-back following the departure of Oleksandar Zinchenko to Arsenal.

Guardiola’s side were the frontrunners to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton, but Brighton’s demands saw prices drop and the left-back eventually joined Chelsea on a £62m deal.

City now have their attention on another target, with Atletico defender Lodi being part of a five-man shortlist that includes Rafael Guerreiro, Borna Sosa, Rayan Aitnouri and Alex Grimaldo.

Lodi has been a mainstay in Diego Simeone’s defense since joining from Athletico Paranaense in 2019 and was part of the side that won the La Liga title in the 2020/21 season.

Serie A side Juventus inquired about signing the 24-year-old in July but were informed the left-back was not for sale.

The defender has three years left on Wanda Metropolitano’s contract, and Atlético are entitled to demand a sizeable sum if City pursue Lodi’s transfer.

Borussia Dortmund defender Guerreiro has also been mentioned. The Portuguese international, with just one year left on his contract with BVB, will be tough competition for his national team-mate Cancelo.

City are also interested in Stuttgart’s Sosa. The 24-year-old has caught the eye of many clubs on the continent after his four successful seasons with the German squad.

Finally, Ait Nouri and Grimaldo are also on Citizens’ left-back shortlist before the window closes in less than three weeks.
