As the action continues all the way to the end, let’s take a closer look at the playoff photos.

Battle for 1st seed

1. Chicago Sky (22-7) — qualified for playoffs

  • Remaining games: 7 (including Sun, vs. Sun, and Ace)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Ace: 1-1 in the season series with one game left. vs. Sun: 2-0 in the season series with two games left
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.8 Los Angeles Sparks

2. Las Vegas Aces (21-8) — qualified for playoffs

  • Remaining games: 7 (including Japan)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Sky: 1-1 in the season series with 1 game left. vs. Sun: Won Season Series 2-1
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.7 Phoenix Mercury

3. Connecticut Sun (20-9) — qualified for playoffs

  • Remaining games: 7 (including vs. Sky and at Sky)
  • Tiebreaker: Against Sky: 0-2 in the season series with two games remaining. Versus Ace: Lost Season Series 1-2
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.6 Dallas Wings

Sky is currently number one, followed by Aces and Sun. And with one game left against Sky and two against the Sun, they still have a chance to secure the No. 1 seed and home-court advantage through the playoffs.

With their current lead and a chance to grab a tiebreaker against both Ace and Sun, Sky must be considered a favorite to secure the top spot. However, the Aces are 5-1 since his All-Star break and the Commissioners have just won his cup final, while the Suns are 6-1 since the break.

2 teams competing for 4th place

4. Seattle Storm (18-11)

  • Remaining games: 6 (including Mystic)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Mystics: Win the Season Series 2-0
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.5 Washington Mystics

5. Washington Mystics (18-11)

  • Remaining games: 6 (including anti-storm)
  • Tiebreaker: Against the Storm: Lost Season Series 0-2
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.4 Seattle Storm

One of the tightest races right now is right in the middle of the standings with the Storm and Mystics battling for fourth place and home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. On Saturday, the Storm took the lead by defeating the Mystics in the first game of the weekend in a row. As a result, Seattle moved up one game in the standings by winning a tiebreak between the two teams.

However, fourth place is still up for grabs, especially if Washington can pull off a win in the final meeting between the teams on Sunday. Mystics can’t win the tiebreaker, but he does tie the team’s level by playing five games each.

Spot 6-8 for grabs

6. Dallas Wings (13-16)

  • Remaining games: 7 (including vs. Liberty x2, Mercury, Sparks)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Mercury: 2-1 in the season series with one game left. Against the Sparks: 1 win and 2 losses in the season series with 1 game left. vs. Dream: Lost in season series 1-2. vs. Liberty: 1-0 in the season series with two games left. vs. Lynx: Win the Season Series 2-1
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No. 3 Connecticut Sun

The Wings lost seven of their final 10 games heading into Saturday, but got back on track with a big win against the Dream. Additionally, they jumped up to sixth in the crowded standings. They still have a lot of work to do, but beating Dream was a big step towards making the playoffs for the second year in a row.

7. Phoenix Mercury (13-16)

  • Remaining games: 7 (includes Liberty, vs. Liberty, vs. Wings)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Sparks: Season series tied 2-2, now with a better record against teams over .500 and winning tie-breaks. vs. Wings: 1-2 with 1 game left in the season series. vs. Dream: Lost in season series 1-2. vs. Liberty: 1-0 in the season series with two games left. vs. Lynx: Lost Season Series 0-3
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.2 Las Vegas Aces

With Skylar Diggins-Smith leading the way, Mercury took two straight wins to take seventh place. That’s a solid position for now, but they’re about to embark on a difficult three-match East Coast road trip, including two matches against the Crimson Sun.

8. Los Angeles Sparks (12-16)

  • Remaining games: 8 (including vs. Lynx, Liberty x2, Dream, vs. Wings)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Sparks: Season series tied 2-2. vs. Wings: He went 2-1 in the season series with one game left. vs Dream: 1-1 in the season series with one game left. vs. Liberty: 1-0 in the season series with two games left. vs. Lynx: 1-1 in season series with 1 game left
  • Current First Round Opponents: vs. No.1 Chicago Sky

The Sparks are trending down again, with their next four games against playoff hopefuls, three of them on the road. This stretch will be crucial for the Sparks, who are just one game behind his No. 9 Dream, who they face on August 5.

9. Atlanta Dream (12-18)

  • Remaining games: 6 (including vs. Sparks, Lynx, vs. Liberty, at Liberty)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Mercury: Won the season series 2-1. Sparks: He has one win and one loss in his series with one game left in his season. vs Wings: Won the season series 2-1. vs. Liberty: 1-1 in the season series with two games left. vs. Lynx: 1-1 in season series with 1 game left
  • Current First Round Opponents: none

No chance during a four-game losing streak, but the final month of the season is especially tough. This current slide has taken the Dream out of the playoff picture and they are now in eighth place full game after a heavy loss to the Wings on Saturday. It’s been a long time. This could earn them a playoff spot at the end of the season.

10. Minnesota Lynx (11-19)

  • Remaining games: 6 (including Sparks vs. Dream)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Mercury: Won the season series 3-0. vs. the Sparks: 1-1 in the season series with one game left. vs. Wings: Lost in season series 1-2. vs Dream: 1-1 in the season series with one game left.vs. Liberty: won the season series 2-1
  • Current First Round Opponents: none

Despite a mid-season surge to make their record look more respectable, the Lynx probably won’t make it to the playoffs. However, they are within 2 games of 8th place and have some tiebreakers, so I’m including them here.

11. New York Liberty (10-18)

  • Remaining games: 8 (including vs. Mercury, vs. Sparks x2, at Mercury, at Wings x2, at Dream, vs. Dream)
  • Tiebreaker: vs. Mercury: 0-1 in the season series with two games left. vs. the Sparks: 0-1 in the season series with two games left. vs. Wings: 0-1 in the season series with two games left. vs. Dream: 1-1 in the season series with two games remaining. vs. Lynx: Lost Season Series 1-2
  • Current First Round Opponents: none

Liberty didn’t take advantage of Candice Parker’s absence on Friday night and lost to Sky by a narrow margin. As a result, in his last 10 games he went 2-8 and dropped to 11th place. Their playoff hopes are fading, but all his remaining eight games will be against fellow playoff contenders, so if they heat up, they can still find their way. deaf.

The bottom picture of the playoffs is somewhat confusing, with six teams ranked 6th to 11th separated by only 2.5 games. Each team has at least two games left for him against other teams in this group, with only a handful of tiebreakers. All of this means that these current standings will not stay the same.

eliminated

12. Indiana Fever (5-26)

Fever is the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs, returning to the lottery for the sixth straight season. It’s the worst stretch in the franchise’s history, and we hope to have better luck with the ping-pong ball later this year.
