NFL Quarterback Competition Tracker: Who's Number One in Camp?

with NFL With the season starting in five weeks, there are some notable quarterback competitions underway.

Two of them are aimed at newcomers looking to top the depth chart, and all include veterans eager to kickstart their careers.

Let’s take a look at the standings of the ongoing QB competition in the league.

Kenny Pickett 3rd check in. Pittsburgh Steelers depth chart

The Steelers have released their first depth chart for the 2022 season. Experience tells us not to put a lot of stock in a team’s first tier chart, but Pittsburgh’s first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft are Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Mason, respectively. It’s worth noting that it’s listed behind Rudolph.

NBC Sports’ Peter King said last weekend that it would be Trubisky’s loss to start the quarterback job.

Head coach Matt Rule said he won’t be making “major decisions” at any position until after the team’s first preseason game in New England on August 19.

It is speculated that what he is primarily referring to is the QB rivalry between Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold.

“Patriots week is a real litmus test for us,” Rule told reporters after Saturday’s scrimmage. “It really shows us where everyone is.”

Even after Carolina’s preseason opener, the rules said either QB could withhold a decision if they didn’t separate themselves.

Marcus Mariota was named a starter in Atlanta

The Atlanta Falcons signed Mariota to a two-year deal in the offseason after trading Matt Ryan to Indianapolis.A month later, they drafted Desmond Ridder 74th overall in the draft. It looks like Mariota has already won the job, but that caused a bit of QB controversy.

Falcons quarterback coach Charles London recently said, “Of course, we have our own plans. Marcus is the starter.” “That’s how we’re getting into this thing.”

Given his experience in the league and the fact that head coach Arthur Smith brought him in after the two worked together in Tennessee, tapping Mariota as QB1 is surprising. That’s not the point.

Geno Smith maintain top position in Seattle

No, the Seahawks haven’t released a depth chart yet, but coach Pete Carroll recently confirmed that Smith is ahead of Drew Locke in the quarterback race.

In fact, Rock has done very little work in the top-team offense since arriving in Seattle in the spring.

“Jeno continues to be on top,” Carroll said via Pro Football Talk. “He’s leading. He’s leading for obvious reasons, he’s holding onto it, he’s fighting really well. They’re both communicating beautifully and learning a lot. Nothing is a problem’ we are trying. ”

Smith has been with the Seahawks for the past three seasons. He started three games last year in place of the injured Russell Wilson. With Smith at the center, Seattle struggled strongly on offense, losing to the Steelers and Saints before winning over the Jaguars.

Stay tuned for updates on QB competition.
