NCS4 publishes industry reports on security issues, emerging threats, and technology solutions for professional sports venues

Venue Security Director SurveyNational Audience Sports Security Center (NCS)FourThe University of Southern Mississippi (USM) publishes the results of a venue security director survey in an industry report.

The sports world faces unique challenges when returning to play after a pandemic, and many leagues, teams, and venues are looking for ways to maintain or improve their security operations. The purpose of this study is to investigate security issues, emerging threats, and technology solutions for professional sports venues. The information gathered from this study will assist venue directors in policy development, raise awareness of technology solutions, identify resource needs, address training gaps, and protect human, physical, and cyber assets. “This publication provides insights into the operational and management trends of sports security and the use of new threats and technologies,” said Dr. Stacey A. This project has been approved by the USM Institutional Review Board (IRB). This committee reviews academic studies on humans to ensure compliance with federal and university requirements. The online survey was conducted on security directors at venues hosting professional sports teams in Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, and the National Hockey League. Venue demographics, staffing and training, fan behavior, technology utilization, patron screening, cybersecurity, and drone mitigation were key areas.

Industry recommendations and resources are also included in the report.
