Maxwell Cornette: West Ham sign Burnley winger for £17.5m over five years | Transfer Center News

West Ham have signed Burnley winger Maxwell Cornette for £17.5m.

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year deal with a one-year option and will wear the number 14 shirt at the Hammers.

Cornette completed a medical examination on Friday, before confirming his personal terms, including Gianluca Skamakka (£35.5m), Naef Agard (£30m), Alphonse Areola (£10.5m) and Flynn Agard (£30.5m). It is David Moyes’ fifth summer deal, after Downs (£12m).

Initially, West Ham’s preference was thought to be on loan, but the club was prepared to meet Cornette’s release clause.

“Joining this big club is a new step for me and I’m really happy to be here to participate in the club’s project. I’m just excited to get started.

“We all know the level here in the Premier League is very high and that’s why I want to play here, so I’m really happy to be at the next stage of my career.

“Playing in front of 62,500 fans at the London Stadium is fantastic. I played here for Burnley last season and can’t wait to experience it as a West Ham player.”

Despite being relegated to Burnley last season, Cornette scored nine goals and one assist in 26 appearances.

“We are delighted to welcome Maxwell to West Ham United,” said West Ham manager David Moyes. It will add quality.

“He made a huge impact on his performance at Burnley last season and we have been impressed with his desire to improve and challenge further here at West Ham.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Maxwell to the group and wish him the very best in his career with us.”

Will Cornette face Man City?

Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth:

“I don’t think the cornet was registered before noon [on Friday] He is unlikely to face Manchester City at West Ham super sundae.

“His first appearance will likely be at Nottingham Forest next weekend.”
