Express Entry: ITA Raises CRS with All New Program Lottery

Canada has issued ITA to more candidates in the second Express Entry Lottery in over 18 months

Canada invited 1,750 express entry candidates to apply for permanent residence on July 20th. Express entry is one of Canada’s main ways to welcome immigrants. In 2022, Canada will welcome 55,900 immigrants through Express Entry, and by 2024 the target will skyrocket to 111,500.

Candidates were invited if their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 542 or higher. There was no program specified for this lottery. That is, candidates for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP) are invited.

The CRS requirements for the new draw are 15 points lower than the previous All Program draw, which had a minimum cutoff score of 557 on July 6th. Canada has also issued 250 more invitations in this draw compared to the previous 1,500 invitations. ..

Second express entry lottery since December 2020

This was the second full-program draw since July 6th, after an 18-month hiatus. Meanwhile, Immigrant Refugees and Canadian Citizenship (IRCC) have invited only eligible immigrant candidates through either the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or the State Nominee Program (PNP). ).

In the Express Entry Lottery for all programs, the IRCC will consider CRS from all candidates in the Express Entry Pool, regardless of the program in which they are eligible. Prior to the pandemic, most Express Entry lottery was not program-specific. In other words, candidates eligible for the Express Entry program had the opportunity to receive an application invitation (ITA) if they met the minimum CRS.

From January 2021 to September 2021, IRCC held a PNP and CEC held a lottery approximately every two weeks. Since September 21, 2021, the IRCC has stopped inviting CEC candidates because the expected application processing time has exceeded the 6-month standard.

The IRCC has returned to hosting all program draws, but further changes are planned for the express entry system. The reforms specified in the recently passed bill C-19 are expected to come into effect in early 2023. Once implemented, the IRCC will be able to hold target draws that invite express entry candidates to apply based on their economic goals. Candidates may be invited based on profession, educational qualifications, language proficiency, or other factors that meet the needs of the labor market.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is an application management system for three Canadian immigration programs (Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)). Express Entry Pool State Nominee Program (PNP) candidates are already eligible to participate in at least one of these programs.

Express Entry uses a point-based system, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), to rank candidates’ profiles. Candidates with the highest scores can receive an invitation to apply (ITA) and apply for permanent residence.

After the candidate applies, IRCC officers will review the application and make a decision. Officers may request biometrics and set up an interview or request additional documentation.

Once approved, the applicant will obtain a Permanent Resident Confirmation (COPR). After that, the final step is to complete the landing process and officially become a permanent resident of Canada.
