With training camp fully underway, additional clues have surfaced as to who is likely to be on the Detroit Lions’ 2022 53-man roster.
After observing the early stages of training camp, here’s what AllLions currently predicts to make the final 53-man roster:
quarterback (3)
- Jared Goff
- Tim Boyle
- David Blau
The backup play on the roster leaves a lot to be desired, but the coaching staff has supported this room throughout training camp.
If Goff goes down with injury, it will be difficult to win matches against Boyle and Braff.
running back (4)
- Dandre Swift
- Jamal Williams
- Jason Cabinda (FB)
- Jarmer Jefferson
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Jefferson is one of the most improved players since the end of last season.
A new mental approach has allowed young running backs to play.
wide receiver (5)
- Amon La St. Brown
- dj chark
- Josh Reynolds
- Caliph Raymond
- trinity benson
- Jameson Williams (PUP)
Cephus’ injury could cost him his place on the roster.
Trinity Benson continues to perform well in camp and should be a target-scoring player in three preseason games.
tight end (4)
- TJ Hockenson
- James Mitchell
- Shane Zilstra
- Garrett Griffin
Mitchell is steadily working toward his comeback and should be a well-developed player heading into the 2022 season.
Griffin has a blocking ability and provides veteran leadership to younger units.
Offensive Line (8)
- Frank Ragneau
- Jonah Jackson
- Halapourivati Vaitai
- Taylor Decker
- Penay Sewell
- Matt Nelson
- Evan Brown
- Tommy Kramer
If all contributors remain healthy this season, we hope to be able to successfully observe the progress of this unit.

defensive line (5)
- Michael Blockers
- Levi Onuzurike
- Alim Macneil
- Josh Pascal
- John Kominsky
Demetrius Taylor has been adamant about making this team and may end up with the next projection. But for now, the coaching staff is sticking with the veteran Kominski.
edge (5)
- Aidan Hutchinson
- Charles Harris
- Julian Okwala
- Austin Bryant
- Ohara Romeo
Campbell said James Houston still has a lot of room to grow as a player. Therefore, he seems like a candidate to earn a spot on the practice team to launch his career.
Campbell praised Bryant’s motor in a recent media session, and the young defensive lineman has stood out in training camp.
Linebacker (5)
- Alex Anzalone
- Derrick Burns
- chris board
- Malcolm Rodriguez
- Sean Dion-Hamilton
Malcolm Rodriguez is rapidly climbing the charts and could be a valuable reserve as the season progresses.
While many still question the unit’s potential, the coaching staff is confident these five will play all season and push each other to improve week after week.
cornerback (6)
- Amani Orwalier
- Will Harris
- Jeff Okuda
- Jerry Jacobs
- AJ Parker
- chase lucas
Mike Hughes doesn’t do much to justify his place on the final 53-man roster.
He may end up making the final predictions, but these six stand out as worthy players for the season opener.
The most interesting camp battle that emerged was Harris fighting Okuda alongside Orwalier.
Orwalier had an unusually rough practice on Friday ahead of the team’s family fest at Ford Field on Saturday.
safety (5)
specialist (3)
